Straight from Integrator: Grant Kirton with SOSIMO Limited

Our distribution partner in New Zealand, Key Service Ltd, reached out to us with this testimonial that we wanted to share. Sosimo does stunning luxury home integration all over New Zealand. You can find more information about Sosimo here!

“As a systems Integrator supplying bespoke Home Automation solutions from simple one room home theatre to high-end residential projects, we have been supplying HDMI and HDBaseT matrix and distribution equipment since it was first released onto the market. Over a 15+ year period we have installed equipment from all of the major industry players from simple HDBaseT extenders and 4x4 HDMI matrixes through to full card frame 16x16 matrixing for more complicated and highly automated projects.

The reality of working in this environment is that it is challenging. Managing interoperability between manufacturers – i.e “this display works fine but only with this matrix and only with this brand AVR” can be a potential nightmare! Building sites where segregation and protection of cabling can be difficult to achieve and protect from other services during construction. When you factor in fast moving technology changes in displays panels, ever increasing resolutions / bandwidth, the cost of on-going servicing for clients that require 100% performance we were looking for a technology partner rather than a one off solution. When we first heard about AVPro Edge equipment we viewed them with a fair degree of cynicism. While most suppliers say they have the best, fastest or most cost effective solutions – many have released products that are fraught with exaggerated performance or even worse, are simply not fit for purpose. So to us, initially – AVPro Edge was just another brand.

The reality however was completely different. With a range of products from HDBaseT extenders and matrixes that really do work and can handle the required scaling, hand-shaking, resolution and bandwidth, AVPro Edge product usually just works – straight out of the box. That’s almost unheard of in our industry.  AVPro Edge also has a range of test equipment that allows us to diagnose and test our installs to meet a specified standard. Being able to pinpoint and test for any potential issues in our workshops before we even get to site. This has been instrumental – letting us provide installations where handshaking and compatibility issues are now generally a thing of the past. This is very clever product – the perfect range of scalers, DA’s, extenders, matrixes and tools developed  to get the job done – in the real world!  For us, quite simply this means - Installations that work the first time, every-time, with reduced cost of service and most importantly for our clients – 100% uptime."

– Grant Kirton, Director, SOSIMO Limited

AVPro Global Holdings is headquartered in Sioux Falls, SD. We are proud to serve as members of our community and are always looking to support in any way we can.

Today we will highlight one of the organizations we love, the Sioux Empire Pit Rescue (SEPR). This organization is a bully breed rescue in Sioux Falls, SD. They work diligently to rescue, foster, and find forever homes for dogs across the area. They have brought over 500 dogs into their foster system since 2009. AVPro is proud to support this organization and their annual Corks and Collars event. We look forward to the event every year which includes a silent auction and a chance to meet and greet with some of the furry fosters!

Heather Casper-McLay, coordinator for the Corks and Collars event stated, "SEPR has been active for over 10 years now in the Sioux Falls area. Each year we rescue between 40-50 dogs and place them in to foster homes until they find their fur-ever families! We also do community education and outreach projects such as providing assistance for spay and neuter to dog owners who might not be able to afford those procedures. We are a completely volunteer-run organization, so fundraising is extremely important to the success of our organization. The Corks & Collars gala is our biggest fundraiser and helps to cover our annual expenses which can run close to $100,000 per year. The gala hosts both a silent and live auction and there are wine glasses and grab bags for sale, as well as a wine-pull.  The night features delicious food and a wonderful band as well. Because the event was postponed until August, we are hosting a raffle for 4 tickets to Journey in June along with a $25 gift card to Severance Brewing.  We will be selling 40 raffle tickets at $20 apiece.  People can go to our website to purchase a raffle ticket for a really fun summer night!"
Corks and Collars 2020 will take place on August 28. To learn more about the SEPR visit www.pitrescue.org!

The Video Flux from AVPro Edge (AC-MXMV122-UHD) is long standing staple in our product line-up. It is an advanced HD/UHD Multi-format Matrix Viewer, designed for handling and control of multiple video signals and features 16 available (12 at a time) input options including composite, component, VGA, and HDMI. It also has the ability to do 4K Quad View or completely customizable multi-view configurations.

The possibilities are endless. This is the ideal solution for high-end home installations as well as being the ultimate presentation switch for classrooms, board rooms, and training environments.

Input options for the Video Flux include Composite, Component, VGA, and HDMI.
PictureCheck out this case study which shows off the ultimate man cave using the Video Flux.
One Versatile Switch
One of the great things about the Video Flux is its versatility. It can go from the backbone of your classroom to the best add-on an integrator can offer a homeowner. If you are installing whole-home video distribution systems adding a Video Flux to your installation allows you to offer full 4K quad view which shows four sources on one screen, ideal for any sports fan. With custom layouts and cropping features, you could have your favorite news ticker running across the bottom of your screen while you have two football games and a hockey game on one display. Team this product with a 4x4, 8x8, or 16x16 matrix switcher from AVPro Edge allows you to distribute this custom multi-source screen to any zone in the system.

PictureThe Fresco CAP4: AC-FRESCO-CAP4
Video Flux and the Fresco 4: Endless Possibilities
When you combine the Fresco 4 Video Wall Processor and the Video Flux, you can create a 2x2 video wall with each of the displays showing a different game. When the action gets hot with one of the games, instantly switch to show that one source over the entire video wall. In the diagram below, we show how the Video Flux and the Fresco 4 can be installed together to maximize features for the client. With full network control and an in-depth API, you can use your favorite control system for switching and use the PC software that comes with the Fresco 4 to manage your video walls bezels.

When you combine the video processing power of the Video Flux and the ability to control the layout of 4 different sources independently - all being output though one HDMI cable, and the 4K60 4:4:4 scaling built into the Fresco Cap 4 Video Wall Processor; the sky is the limit.

How to Continue Working During the COVID-19 Pandemic - The Audio/Video Integrator

3/25/2020

Picture

COVID-19 has taken its toll on the whole world, and in the United States, home to AVPro headquarters, it may still get worse before it gets better. However, as we start to see the light on the other side, now is not a time to shut down. Now is time to look at things from a different angle. In this guide we want to show audio/video integrators that there are steps to take, where you can stay active, grow your knowledge, and continue finding paying jobs that can push you through this uncertain time. Remember, optimism is key.

The Top Things A/V Integrators Can Do to Be Successful During COVID-19:

First and foremost, you must be aware of and abide by your current restrictions on a local, state, and national level. This will vary depending on your location.

Prospecting with Existing Clients
Follow up with your existing customers. Happy customers want to be followed up with, and you might find that this is your way to go from a good installer to a GREAT installer. When following up with your clients, ask how their system is running, and if they need any changes. This is also the time to pitch upgrades to 4K displays, adding a home office for working from home, or setting up a learning from home area for children.

For a lot of integrators, not hearing from a customer is good news, it means the system you installed is working! Change that mindset! This is the time to gain favor with those clients. Give them something to talk to their friends about, word of mouth is a potent tool, use it to your advantage. Setting up one home office or learning area may turn into 10.
Picture
Installing New Construction
Pre-wiring, finish work, and design can continue.

Jobs where you have to get on-site before the sheetrock goes up to pull wire, work with building plans to layout a potential design, hang panels, and mount speakers can continue in empty office places and new home builds. Do this with the knowledge that at this is the time, we should be working alone or not within 6 feet of others. Don’t bring a big crew, don’t make unnecessary stops before or after the job.

The goal is to continue working, but make sure you are following CDC guidelines at the same time. If there is a different crew working during the day, ask the contractor if you can come in at night when no one is around.

Communicating with Customers on Upcoming Jobs
You must continue to communicate with existing clients. Find out how they are feeling, what steps they are taking, encourage them to stay positive and fix any A/V issues they are finding. This communication will lead to new jobs, and it will lead to trust in your company as someone who is proactive during this time. You don’t want to just see how things go. If you have delays caused by the pandemic, make sure you have touched base with your client to schedule an updated time to come in. Keep track of what else is happening around the installation. Is the high voltage person coming in before you? Do you know when the tinners or the drywall is being finished? Make it a point to find out so you can keep this on your calendar.

How an integrator handles their current jobs will determine their reputation for years to come; this is the time to exceed expectations from the customer.

Training/Refreshing Skills
Find yourself with extra time or have employees that don’t have a full day of work? This is the time to increase your knowledge of the new and emerging technologies used every day by integrators. A lot has changed over the last five years, and if you have found yourself installing all day, you might be behind on the latest and greatest.

Taking this time to become a better, more knowledgeable integrator will help you come out on the other side of the pandemic stronger than ever before. You may even win a few more jobs with the solutions you learn about. To see AVPro’s full COVID-19 training schedule, click here. Also, look to CEDIA, AVIXA, CEPro, Residential Systems, Commercial Integrator, SCN, TWICE, and HDBaseT for additional training.

PictureShoe covers are a great idea any time you enter a client's home.
Work Clean
Booties and Gloves; now is the time to be extremely careful and clean. If you are going to send a person into someone’s home or business for an installation, understand that it can be nerve-racking for everyone involved during this pandemic. Make sure your integrator knows what they are getting into, Call ahead, be clear that the people at the installation location are comfortable with having you come into their home. Make sure anyone going on-site is dressed extremely clean, with booties to cover their shoes and gloves to cover their hands. Make sure you are never going on-site if you have had any interaction with someone exposed to the coronavirus, or if you have had even the slightest symptom.

We want to continue working, but it’s up to the Integrator to take every precaution possible.

Things integrators should not be doing:

Nothing
Integration companies that are doing nothing are at risk of closing their doors. Take this time to work on the parts of your business you needed to put time into but couldn’t find it before.

Panicking
This solves nothing and gets you no closer to finding cash flow during this pandemic. It will cause your co-workers, employees, and customers to do the same. Thinking logically in this time is how we are all going to get past this, ask yourself, “What would Spock do?” 🖖🖖🖖

National News Non-stop
Everyone wants to be informed about what is happening, but focusing on the news 24/7 isn’t going to solve any company’s problems. Give yourself a break, get uninterrupted hours in concentrating on how to continue business. Check the news periodically, stay informed, and continue operating at whatever level you can.

We hope nothing but the best your yourself, your family and your businessess's during this time. Stay positive, stay safe.

How to Choose Your Next 4K Matrix Switcher

Picture
The matrix switcher is the backbone of every stable video distribution system being installed today. Give your customer the picture quality they want throughout every zone in the installation while delivering beautiful HDR colors to 4K displays. Switch every zone independently by working alongside the biggest control companies in pro AV like Josh.ai, Control 4, Crestron, and more.

When you select an AVPro Edge Matrix Switch you are choosing a product that has been field tested. AVPro Edge comes from a background in HDMI testing and troubleshooting, allowing us to develop video distribution technology fast. We launched the very first 18Gbps 8x8 HDMI Matrix Switcher years ago. So, while many companies are now coming out with similar products, they do not have the experience in high bandwidth video distribution like AVPro does.

quick Picks:

Picture
8x2 HDMI Matrix Switcher
AC-MX82-AUHD
This matrix switch is perfect for a home theater setup allowing you to connect eight sources and switch independently between two outputs.

Picture
8x8 HDMI NSFS Matrix Switcher
AC-MX88-AUHD-NSFS
"NSFS" means No Scaling, Faster Switching. We have removed the built-in scalers for installations that rely on faster switching.

Picture
16x16 HDBaseT Matrix Switcher
AC-MX1616-AUHD-HDBT
This large scale matrix switcher is ready to distribute HDR and 4K throughout 16 independent zones. Each zone can be 70 meters from the Matrix Switcher using HDBaseT technology.
So, we know we need a 4K Matrix Switcher, but how do we pick the right one?

Each installation in Pro Audio Video is going to be different, so preparation is crucial to a successful job. You need to determine how many sources and independent video zones you need, what types of signals you will be passing, and how far away will the signal be going. After you have a clear idea of the job you can start to determine the Matrix Switcher for your set up.

We created this handy chart that will break down the differences in our Matrix Switchers, giving you a clear idea of which one is right for your job.

In the video to the right you can see the AVPro Edge Matrix Switcher in action at ISE 2020
ISE 2020 was the last time the show will be held in the amazing city of Amsterdam. 2021 marks a new era where ISE will move to Spain, in the beautiful city of Barcelona. But let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. This year AVPro Edge showed off its ideal audio video distribution backbone with the modular matrix switcher.

This matrix switch is card based and allows you to purchase a chassis and only fill it with the inputs and outputs that you need! With up to 16 inputs and 16 outputs, you will have plenty of zones to work with.
Picture
Input options including HDMI Standard, and HDMI with Dolby Atmos and DTS downmixing capabilities. Output cards include HDMI and HDBaseT.
Picture
Using HDBaseT technology allows you to deliver high bandwidth 4K HDR content over long distances by using standard category cable. Make sure you are giving your customer the signalling they deserve with one of AVPro Edge's powerful matrix switchers.

For more information on the modular matrix switcher from AVPro Edge give us a call at 605-275-6055 or email us a info@avproedge.com
